COVID-19 Vaccine

Among 14 (+) million people vaccinated in Saudi Arabia as of 30th of May,2021 who've received the Pfizer-BioNTech or AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines, no reported cases of severe allergic reactions, known as anaphylaxis.

Hemodialysis patients can take the vaccine despite being on anticoagulation during dialysis. They have the option to take the vaccine on dialysis day with physician order or none dialysis days. There is a small risk of bleeding with intramuscular injections. The anticoagulant that is taken during the dialysis procedure is short acting and will not impact the vaccination nor cause a bleeding risk. For further questions related to anticoagulation please reach out to the lead physician in the clinic.

As DaVita teammates and dialysis family members you are taking care of dialysis patients. These patients are high risk for the COVID-19 disease and its complications. Even if COVID-19 doesn’t make you very sick, you could pass it on to someone else who might be more severely affected. Getting vaccinated yourself may also protect people around you, particularly people at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19. People on dialysis can have weaker immune systems, making it harder to fight infections. However, it is important to know that kidney patients need to continue with their regularly scheduled dialysis treatments and to take necessary precautions as recommended by their healthcare team.
