Anas Al Faqih is one of our Patients since 2014. He is Now 23 years old and became a popular You-Tuber. His story Started when he was in a young age he always had a passion about making videos. In 2013 he decided to start his own YouTube channel. His first video was about “Dialysis and kidney failure “. In 2018 and with the help of Dr. Ibrahim Saig our regional Operation Director West Region, he started a new series show in his you tube channel called “No failure with the kidney failure “. The purpose of it is to educate people about kidney failure and how to get through it and not let failure effect your life. Today, and with all blessings and support, he have 7 episodes and hopes to increase them in the future.

Our patient Abdulaziz Al Johani at King Abdulaziz Jeddah Clinic started dialyzing at the age of 10 “and now he is 32. He never stopped believing in himself, nor in his power that helped him cross all the struggles and pain. The result was his first novel “ Gazal Al Aseel “ , a mix between Love , Pain , Adoration , sincerity and tears. Ghazal with her femininity lightened up my world. And Aseel with his chivalry give me spirit. when the patinet was interviewed by Davita team, he said: " This moment is worth the pain and struggle. My message to everyone who suffers from kidney failure: “don’t let failure go beyond the kidney failure, Create the change you want to see in your life” Watch your health, and don’t lose your smile, accept yourself and be proud! For most families, having a new baby is a gift that brings happiness but pregnancy can cause a lot of anxiety and fear especially with a patient suffering from End Stage Renal Disease. We share in this article the story of our patient who was able to challenge the disease and stayed true to her dreams of becoming a mother no matter how difficult the situation has been. At the age of 25, patient Noha shares that she suddenly felt tired and weak and it lead to her eventual admission to the ICU. Her situation during that time was unimaginable considering that she just lost her mother. Her father then started to take care of her until she met her husband which she describes to have played a remarkably significant role in her life. To cut the long story short, she and her husband moved from Mecca to Riyadh and looked for a facility where she could do dialysis. They decided to have their treatment in DaVita South Riyadh-Aziziyah. According to the patient, DaVita was helpful in looking after her medical, nursing and psychological care. Patient verbalized that she did not expect to be pregnant because of her current condition. When she learned about her pregnancy in July 2017, she was stunned and excited. At the same time, she was worried about her baby’s health thinking that she may end up losing her. At that point, our medical team was very supportive. At first, they acknowledged patient’s feelings as something normal and expected given the circumstances. Likewise, our nursing and allied health team have extended their support to our patient and provided her with everything she needed. The patient was told that it is possible to make the pregnancy successful but she and her family need to cooperate with the changes in the prescription which include her commitment to daily dialysis and weekly follow up with her OB doctor. After nine months of medical follow-up and daily treatment, Noha gave birth to a healthy baby girl in April 2018. The joy of having a baby despite the odds is unexplainable but it became more exciting for the family when the patient found out she was expecting her second child. This time, the patient was calm and from her initial experience, she just followed what she was told to do. She delivered her second child in July 2019, full term but underweight. The baby stayed in an incubator for a month then they eventually went home. The patient verbalized “everyone who works in DaVita is very aware and responsible. The medical team is super as well as nurses and dietitian. DaVita provided me with the best medical care” (translated from Arabic) On October 28, 2019, patient and her family were invited to come to the clinic to celebrate this important milestone in their life. During the celebration, patient’s husband said he is very happy. He did not expect to be celebrating as wonderful as this. He said “many healthy married couples have no children, but we are very happy that we have two beautiful girls given that their mother is a kidney failure patient. Finally, I thank DaVita very much for helping us” The whole DaVita South Riyadh-Aziziyah team humbly shared the celebration on that day with strong commitment to our Core Value of Service Excellence and firm resolve to fulfill part our mission to be the Provider of choice.

As part of our continuity in providing the best care to our patients, both DaVita clinics at al Kharj and Al Hasa celebrated the winning of the Saudi local football team AL Hilal in their own way. Teammates were very happy as well as the patients. Al Hilal is one of the local Saudi popular teams and has a lot of fans. They recently won the AFC champion League against Urawa.

Our Social Workers at Qatef clinic (Fatimah and Ezdihar)participated in a bazaar that was held in the eastern province to display all our patient Abrar’s crochets and display her items to motivate her and increase her sellings. The booth was a great success and the patient managed to sell many of her beautiful work.

The only person who can measure your quality of life is you. Quality of life is defined as: the amount of enjoyment and satisfaction that a person gets from his/her daily routine. Now’s the time to do a little soul searching and answer a few questions: Do you live from dialysis appointment to dialysis appointment? Or, have you made dialysis just a part of your life that enables you to enjoy the rest? Are you living the way you want to live? Are you living to the best of your ability? If you are new to dialysis, you may still be feeling physically tired, and you may still be getting used to the routine of going to treatments three days a week. But after a few dialysis treatments, your blood should be cleaner, your anemia should be treated providing you more energy and you should begin to feel better and be able to get enjoyment from your life. To achieve quality of life, make sure that you are caring for yourself in all ways: body, mind and spirit. Treating the whole person will put you on the path to success. What does the Quality of Patient Care Star Rating mean? The Quality of Patient Care Five-Star Rating was developed by CMS and uses data to assign a star rating of 1 to 5 to each dialysis center based on the quality of patient outcomes. The following measures are included: Dialysis Adequacy (Kt/V) Hypercalcemia (uncorrected calcium) Standardized Fistula Rate Long-Term Catheter Rate Standardized Mortality Ratio Standardized Hospitalization Ratio Standardized Transfusion Ratio Standardized Readmission Ratio Star ratings are calculated by first averaging the eight individual quality measures, divided into the three categories (ratio metrics, lab fundamentals and access fundamentals), then averaging those scores to determine the final facility’s score and establish the rating.
